This is my son Merlin in a box that is making him very happy. He loves hopping in and out of it and crouching low so he’s just barely peeking out.
❤️ Speaking of boxes, metaphorical ones, one of the things that we are moving away from is the inclination to expect our animal companions to fit into an imaginary box. For a long time humans have had this expectation that animal companions should adapt to fit into our lifestyles and home. Now we are realizing that sometimes -or often-we as the humans are the ones that may need to also adapt to their needs. ✨ Why would we have all this comfy furniture and declare it off limits to our family member? It’s their home too! And it creates an unrealistic expectation to declare certain sections off limits (unless there is an actual safety concern like not jumping on a hot stove.) New York recently became the first US state to ban the horrific practice of declawing cats. (It’s been banned/illegal in many countries and a couple of US cities for some time.) I see this as another great sign of progress that humans are placing value on the health and well being of their companions above the things/furniture in their home. 🌟 Another “box” has to do with personality. Each and every animal is completely unique. Perhaps we want our dog to be social with the dogs of our friends but ours is shy and doesn’t feel comfortable with other dogs. That’s ok. It could also be that we had a dog that acted a certain way and now we live with one that is very different, and we try to get the new dog to fit into the lifestyle that was perfect for the one before. Sometimes it’s from a place of wanting them to be happy - but it’s helpful to ask them/ notice what actually makes them happy. And it’s especially helpful to honor that. If your dog (or any species)seems skittish around young children for example- don’t put them in a situation where they have to be together. Sometimes there is a worry that other people will be offended - but in my experience - most humans will understand when we set the example that our animal family members’ needs come before social expectations. Another example is the expectation for animal companions to be quiet. Just like people- some are naturally more chatty than others. Unless they are vocalizing due to distress- in which case they may need help - it’s not a concern for them to just talk because they want to. There are so many “boxes” but the only good ones are the literal /physical ones that they can play in if they so choose!✨ ❤️ In the second photo Merlin is yawning but I love it because it looks like he is roaring and rebelling against the concept of metaphorical boxes! On this full moon in Capricorn (with a partial eclipse) I would like to share a meditation from the deer beings. I have been connecting with them in my personal meditations and they sometimes look like regular deer and sometimes like people with antlers and deer faces. They are multidimensional beings of light from the stars. Sometimes I hear their name as “forest guides.”🌟🌟🌟
Start by closing your eyes - -imagine your feet expanding into strong powerful roots that reach all the way to the center of our earth -release anything you no longer need & allow it to be transmuted - until you feel grounded & connected with our beautiful planet -then imagine that you are growing antlers, they effortlessly emerge and reach up to the skies and stars -the antlers allow you to abundantly receive the energies that are in your highest good & they allow for many points of receiving and through all of those points - golden starlight and silvery moonlight energies pour into your crown chakra like sparkling fresh waterfalls, bathing you all the way down to your toes, while you remain firmly connected to earth. -When you feel that you have received all the energies & abundance you need, take 3 deep breaths and see yourself as you normally appear, taking a moment to observe how you feel. This can be done anytime you need an energy boost. Our animal companions love it when we clear our energy and it looks all shiny & fresh to them! I met this beautiful being a few years ago in the US northwest. I’ve been thinking about how we name our companion animals- choosing names for them and sometimes waiting to see which they prefer.
My husband and I are considering a trip to Alaska next year, and we would go to Juneau which happens to be the name of one of my cat sons in spirit. I had this thought about how amazing it will be to be surrounded by his name on all the signs there! I can get something postmarked in Juneau even! Before we adopted him and Jarvis, we had thought of the name Juno (like the goddess) then changed the spelling to Juneau. It’s interesting how once our companions take on a name - that is the first thing we think of when we hear that word. Jarvis was named after the singer of a band named Pulp, which we listened to in college-but once he was named I ceased to associate anything/anyone else with the name. Jarvis was/is simply the name of my son. Imagine my delight when Iron Man came out and his AI operating system was named JARVIS (after his childhood butler) suddenly I could go online and order stickers that proclaimed “Jarvis is my co-pilot” just like in the movie! And it’s so true! Except it’s “my” Jarvis who is my co-pilot along with his brother. When we adopted them (at 8 weeks old) their names at the shelter had been Yin & Yang which was very appropriate, uncannily so. ☯️ My son Merlin, interestingly enough was named Solomon by the shelter that rescued him (Furkids ATL) I’ve always loved the name Merlin and the magical association. 👑And King Solomon was known for wisdom and believed to have magical abilities! 💫So in a sense he has been doubly named magical. And he is! ✨ And last but not least, my daughter Gracie Belle. This name choice circles back to when Juneau was terminally ill (in 2013) and the last few months of his time here on earth with us. All he wanted to do was lay on the couch with us so we were binging some tv shows and snuggling with him every night. Friday Night Lights was one of those shows (which is pretty funny if you know me because I’m not a football fan) but the characters were really good and the show offered comfort during a difficult time. The baby daughter of the coach was named Gracie Belle and it had such a pretty ring to it. It seemed fitting for a sweet faerie queen cat. The origin of it is “Beautiful Grace” which suits her. 🧚🏼♀️💕✨ I love hearing how animal companion names are chosen, and it’s also really fun to ask them during sessions how they feel about their names. Sometimes they love them, occasionally they prefer another name, but always the most important thing is that they are named with love and that the word is spoken with love.❤️ Here are my kids, Merlin and Gracie Belle, on the kitchen counter. They love to hang out on the cool quartz because it places them closer to eye level with us and especially because they can be a part of family activities like cooking and they even keep me company while I wash dishes.
✨ Sometimes I go to someone’s home and they apologize for having their animal kids jump on the counter, or the couch, etc. I understand there are some old fashioned ideas that animals belong only on the floor or in designated places, but I fully disagree with that concept. When we adopt animal companions and they become a part of our family and our lives, that means: the homes we live in are their homes too 🏙✨ So that includes adapting our views of how the home can best suit them too, rather than having unrealistic or too rigid expectations of limiting where they choose to be. The only places I discourage are ones that could be dangerous.( like a stove top that could be hot.) But the counter top is perfect - we even have their drinking water fountain and cat grass on there and it makes me happy that they choose to be with us as much as possible and want to be there in the kitchen with us. And on the couch, the bed, desk etc. I’m pretty sure many of you share your homes like this already - so the next step is: ❤️ no need for apologies! ✨❤️ You are not doing anything wrong by acknowledging that it is their home too. When we show others that this is how we live harmoniously with our interspecies family members, it helps to normalize it for them too. If a visitor is taken aback -or finds it strange-it’s ok. When they notice that you are not reacting or apologizing they will understand this is normal in your home. They will notice that your companions are treated like family members (which they are.) They are visitors so their only polite response is to accept that it’s your home and your animal companions’ home. ❤️ I am often asked about animals as spirit guides, not only our companions who have crossed over, but also other (wild) species. We have multidimensional/spirit animals we connect with all of our lives and some that appear in our lives when we need a certain type of energy/support. Even though there are amazing books with definitions that apply to each species, I also feel it is really important to additionally honor individual unique messages that are specific to us. To pay attention- because they may have something to tell us directly that can’t be found in a book (or online.)
For example, I have been connecting with whales lately and during my meditation today a large humpback whale joined me and showed me some things from her perspective. First it was “seeing” the ocean through her eyes, her senses. Everything under the sea looked so much brighter and vibrant as she saw the energy (auras etc) of it all. Then we were “traveling” through dimensions and she shared how they “inhabit” their bodies. She says they consider each part a specific “space” that their consciousness can go into and be in. And this is also how they monitor their physical health. An example would be going into the kidney “space” and seeing it like a jungle or a forest. What does it look like? Do the leaves look healthy or are they dry or even burned/crisp at the edges? That could be an indication that not enough water is filtering through. She showed me that we can do this with our own bodies, like if our gums or teeth hurt, [in addition to seeing a dentist] check in with that “space,” I tried it and it looked like moss on stones (for me) and the moss was the healthy gums. She also shared they spend a lot of time inhabiting their heartspace. This information is not anything I’ve read before - so I found it very helpful to be shown this manner of inhabiting every part of the body. (I took this photo on my way to Orcas Island in 2014.) Messy bedcovers are a part of being an interspecies parent. My daughter Gracie monitors my energy very closely and when she sees that I need a break she makes me lie down for 5 minutes and she lays on top of me and purrs. Purrs heal - emotionally, physically and energetically. Please listen to your animal companions when they try to convince you to rest (even if it means tiny cat naps (or dog naps, bunny naps etc) or a few extra minutes of sunshine outside. They are not only asking for themselves-they can see & feel our energy and are also trying to help us receive what we need to stay healthy, especially during times of extra stress, our own as well as collective anxiety.✨
![]() Even though I often talk about the magical from the stars loving energy of my kids, there is also a very grounded practical side to being an interspecies parent. The side that takes care of all their physical needs. They are these amazing beautiful souls who chose to incarnate in little cat bodies. Yesterday morning Merlin needed me to help him get cleaned up after the litter box - there was a little mess on his fur (he and his sister have a lot of fur.) I gently cleaned his fur with a damp washcloth. (Gracie lets me use a tiny trimmer if she has a piece of dirty or matted fur, but Merlin doesn’t like the sound of a trimmer so I just have to wash him.) After he got his catnip reward for letting me clean him I saw his floofy clean fur shining in the sunlight streaming through the skylight and had such a feeling of joy, of satisfaction at having taken care of his needs. Our animal companions depend on us to care for them in these ways, to help them stay healthy and clean and safe. And it gives me so much happiness to do it. I feel honored that they always trust me to clip their nails and to groom them gently and anything else they need. I love it when I have just washed their drinking fountain and I see them enjoying the fresh water. For that matter it also makes me really happy to have a clean birdbath ready for the wild birds outside. It’s hard to keep it spotless with so much use -but I do my best- and when I see them in it -delighting in their baths, it always makes me smile. I’m not the most enthusiastic person about doing housework/chores- but when I’m doing it to benefit my kids & other animals it feels less like a chore and more like a privilege. Animals (wild and our family member ones) do so much for us emotionally and energetically-it feels so good to be able to provide these physical comforts for them.❤️ (photo is of a chickadee on our feeder) On this Mother’s Day I am as always beyond grateful for my own amazing sweet mom and for my kids who made me a mom. Juneau and Jarvis who are in spirit now. Merlin and Gracie Belle who are with me now in this physical realm and who make me feel like every single day is Mother’s Day with the unconditional love and purrs they offer me every day. Their love makes me feel like I’m walking on a cloud. They are truly gifts from the stars.
✨❤️✨ I also think about other moms-the biological mom of my kids. I hope their biological mom -wherever she is- knows how beloved her babies are. I hope she knows that Merlin & Gracie and their siblings were cared for by a loving foster mom after they were separated. And that for over 5 years now they have been (& always will be) the apple of their human parents’ eyes. That we adore them beyond anything and are grateful for them every day. 🌟 As interspecies parents all of our kids are adopted. They had a biological mom and we likely didn’t meet or know her. In sessions sometimes animal moms show up and they are still watching over them from spirit (if they crossed over.) They are happy when they see their babies growing up loved. Today I want to send extra love to them, and gratitude. On behalf of all of us parents who have been graced with the privilege and honor of caring for an animal kid/companion and had our lives completely changed by this love and connection. This love that transcends lifetimes. This love that is soul deep. So grateful for everyone that came to the first ever Starseed Animal Circle on Sunday! It was my first time doing something like this so I didn’t really know what to expect either! About 3-4 days before - the animal companions (& their guides) of those attending started giving me information they wanted me to share, and they also dictated the guided meditations to me. Everything was channeled in advance.✨🐳
The animal companions & guides even told me (with not much notice) that they wanted me to facilitate them offering a 3rd eye activation for their humans and gave me specific instructions including using (biodegradable environmentally safe) glitter. ✨ I loved the experience! I’m thankful for how open everyone was & it was wonderful to sit in a circle with interspecies parents who love their starseed animal companions (on earth and in spirit) so much that they wanted to spend time deepening the connection and learning about their companions’ sensitive & multidimensional energies. I definitely am planning to do more, not sure yet when the next one will be. Thanks to everyone who was there! Next time I will try to get a group shot. It was so magical hearing the experiences everyone had during the meditations.✨ As the setting sun on earth day illuminated one of my eyes through the leaves I realized it felt symbolic of seeing the world as an animal intuitive. I see and feel from the perspective of animals along with my own human view. As a medium I perceive energy and multi dimensional beings that are not always visible. I communicate regularly with animals in spirit as well as alive. And with their spirit & star guides. It feels a bit like being a bridge. Bringing messages from one species to another. Translating. From one dimension to another. Most of the time it is so fun. Sometimes it is heartbreaking. Always beautiful. Even when I am in tears from the strong emotions that the animals share with me, there is such a depth of gratitude that they are trusting me with what is in their hearts. Allowing me to hold space for them. With them. Trusting me to convey it to their humans. And it gives me so much hope for humanity when I speak with the amazing people who love their animals so much that they want to know how they feel. Not only physically but also emotionally. To ask them what they need. The questions I am most often asked for living animals are "What can we do to improve the lives of our animals, to make them happy/comfortable, to know they are loved?" I love that. I love reading the questions because I can feel the love behind the words. And the animals feel it too.
And one of the questions I get most for animals in spirit is how to connect with them. Which is so wonderful because it speaks to the shared love that transcends lifetimes. |
