Extreme cozy-ness. perfect. one of the gifts my kids offer. Merlin is pretty much keeping my spot warm so I can sit with him on my lap while dappled sunshine plays across our skin and fur. There are these perfect moments that occur every so often - we all have them - even if it’s just a few seconds of glimpsing the most awe inspiring sunset we’ve ever seen. Ones that stick in our memories forever.
One of those for me was when my first sons Juneau & Jarvis were kittens and we lived in Tucson, AZ. This one lazy Sunday afternoon - I was on the bed, reading the perfect (for me) book and listening to my kids’ alternating purrs and dream sounds. It was one of those moments where everything became heightened. I looked around me - seeing through my own eyes - as me- but also more than the me that is physical - I memorised each sparkly bright patch of sunlight, the ocotillo waving in front of the window, the sounds, their fur moving gently with each breath. These moments are the magic. The gold - the "in-between" slices of perfection that just happen without planning for them- they simply unfold. And I believe they create new pathways in our brains & energy fields - which allow us to better recognize the next time it happens. So now- when I experience them with Merlin & Gracie - I automatically am also able instantly to emotionally connect to that Tucson afternoon with my feline sons (who are in spirit now Recently I was sitting outside and this pretty greenish gold shimmery iridescent fly came for an extended visit with me. Stayed on my arm for a while - then climbed up my sleeve to my shoulder (second pic) and all the while I was feeling waves of love from their heart.
More love than we would imagine such a tiny being could contain! She/he was actively sending love. Then yesterday on our walk my husband noticed a (different) fly hanging out on my head for a long portion of the walk.I bet my crown chakra got some love too! I visited this sweet boy for the past week and offered him reiki. One of the things a lot of animal companions are sharing lately is a deep need for undivided attention. As humans are (understandably) distracted by everything going on in the world - we may be sitting with them, scratching behind their ears, but texting /social media-ing, or watching something at the same time. This is ok - but to really allow ourselves to be fully present - gaze into their eyes- their hearts - even just a few minutes at a time is magic. And it enables us to feel how they are showing up for us with that level of presence all the time. When we receive this with an open heart- it’s such a gift. To us and to them
