![]() Even though I often talk about the magical from the stars loving energy of my kids, there is also a very grounded practical side to being an interspecies parent. The side that takes care of all their physical needs. They are these amazing beautiful souls who chose to incarnate in little cat bodies. Yesterday morning Merlin needed me to help him get cleaned up after the litter box - there was a little mess on his fur (he and his sister have a lot of fur.) I gently cleaned his fur with a damp washcloth. (Gracie lets me use a tiny trimmer if she has a piece of dirty or matted fur, but Merlin doesn’t like the sound of a trimmer so I just have to wash him.) After he got his catnip reward for letting me clean him I saw his floofy clean fur shining in the sunlight streaming through the skylight and had such a feeling of joy, of satisfaction at having taken care of his needs. Our animal companions depend on us to care for them in these ways, to help them stay healthy and clean and safe. And it gives me so much happiness to do it. I feel honored that they always trust me to clip their nails and to groom them gently and anything else they need. I love it when I have just washed their drinking fountain and I see them enjoying the fresh water. For that matter it also makes me really happy to have a clean birdbath ready for the wild birds outside. It’s hard to keep it spotless with so much use -but I do my best- and when I see them in it -delighting in their baths, it always makes me smile. I’m not the most enthusiastic person about doing housework/chores- but when I’m doing it to benefit my kids & other animals it feels less like a chore and more like a privilege. Animals (wild and our family member ones) do so much for us emotionally and energetically-it feels so good to be able to provide these physical comforts for them.❤️ (photo is of a chickadee on our feeder) Comments are closed.
